Pearl S.Buck,the famous American woman writer,the winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1938,lived ,studied and worked in China for almost 40 years ,of which she spent 18 years in Zhenjiang and 6 years in Zhenjiang No.2 Middle School( the Chongmei Girl’s School in her time).It was for this reason that she called Zhenjiang “my Chinese home city” and in the last time of her life she was still missing the campus of her Alma Mater located on the windmill mountain.

In october 2002 a delegation from the Pearl S.Buck International (PSBI) of the United States visited the school and attended the opening ceremony of the Exhibition of Pearl S.Buck in Zhenjiang . An agreement was then reached by the both parties to jointly run the internatioanl class. The class was launched in 2003 with approval by the Zhenjiang Municipal Education Bureau and support of Zhenjiang Pearl S.Buck Research Association .The class is aimed to help junior high school graduates of good character and scholarship who come from poor family to complete their higher school eduction.80 students were enrolled in the first round two classes .They came from 11 counties or cities of Jiangsu, Anhui and Jiangxi province where Pearl S.Buck once lived and worked.With rapid advancement of the students performances,the class has drawn widespread attentions of the entire society,gaining from citizens and enterprises such as Jindong Paper Mill donations amounting to more than 600,000 yuan(over USD70,000).The school will go on running this class in 2004,for it has become the symbol of the loving hearts of the education circles in Zhenjiang.

The Pearl S.Buck International class will go on providing the excellent students with free tuition and one time stipend at enrollment.The school has also a scholarship program and offers certain part-time job positions to those who have special economic difficulties.

The class carries out higher school course program issued by the Ministry of Education with reinforced English language training.The teachers are all backbone middle aged and young ones of the No.2 Middle School.Foreigh teachers sent by the PSBI are envolved in teaching of English and other courses .We believe that Pearl S.Buck International Class will make its own contribution to the development of education in Zhenjiang by taking care of weak social groops ,upholding eduction fairness and expanding international education exchange.
